Battleground Congressional Districts-3

MO-02

In this weekly column on election 2020, I cover four congressional districts designated as a tossup.


MO-02

Missouri's second congressional district is in the eastern portion of the state, primarily of the suburbs south and west of St. Louis, including Arnold, Town and Country, Wildwood, Chesterfield, and Oakville. The district includes portions of St. Louis, Jefferson, and St. Charles counties. It has a population of 752,403 with 51.6% Female and 48.4% Male. 89.9% White, 4.0% Asian, 3.8% Black and 2.4% Hispanic.

The High school graduation rate is 94.3%, and the College graduation rate is 46.0%

The contestants in 202 are: Ann Wagner (Incumbent) (Republican Party), Jill Schupp (Democratic Party), Martin Schulte (Libertarian Party), and Gina Bufe (Independent) (Write-in)

In 2018, Ann Wagner (R) had 51.2% or 192,477 votes while Cort VanOstran (D) had 47.2 or 177,611 votes. Muslim voters are scattered. Together with other Asians, they may make a difference.


ME-02

Maine's 2nd congressional district covers 27,326 square miles and comprises nearly 80% of its total land area. It is the largest district east of the Mississippi River and the 24th-largest overall. Its population is 660,042 with 49.4% Male, and 50.6% Female. 95.5% White, 0.6% Black, 0.6% Asian, 1% Native American and .1% Hispanic. The High school graduation rate is 89%, and the College graduation rate is 21.6%

Jared Golden (Incumbent) (Democratic Party) and Dale Crafts (Republican Party) are the candidates in the 2020 race.

In 2018 Jared Golden (D) got 50.6 or 142,440 votes, while Bruce Poliquin got 49.4 or 138,931 votes. The victory margin was around 3,000. Muslims have a few hundred voters scattered.


MN-07

The 7th district covers almost all of the western side of Minnesota. It includes Becker, Big Stone, Chippewa, Clay, Clearwater, Douglas, Grant, Kandiyohi, Kittson, Lac qui Parle, Lake of the Woods, Lincoln, Lyon, Mahnomen, Marshall, McLeod, Meeker, Murray, Norman, Otter Tail, Pennington, Pipestone, Polk, Pope, Red Lake, Redwood, Renville, Roseau, Sibley, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wilkin, and Yellow Medicine counties. Portions of Beltrami, Cottonwood, and Stearns counties also lie within the district.

The district previously was by far the state's largest district and had a very rural character. Cities in the District included Moorhead, Fergus Falls, Alexandria and Willmar.

The current representative of the 7th Congressional District is Collin Peterson (D).

Its population is 661,532 with 50.4% Male, 49.6% Female. 92.7% White, 1% Black, 1% Asian, 2.9% Native American and 3.8% Hispanic

The High school graduation rate is 90.3%, and the College graduation rate is 20.5%.

Collin Peterson (Incumbent) (Democratic Party), Michelle Fischbach (Republican Party), and Slater Johnson (Legal Marijuana Now Party)are in contest in 2020.

In 2018, Collin Peterson (D) won 52.1% or 146,672 votes, and Dave Hughes (R) got 47.8 votes. Muslims are mainly in urban areas, and their voices may impact the margin of victory for the Democratic candidate.


Ne-02

Nebraska's 2nd congressional district encompasses the core of the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan area. It includes all of Douglas County, which includes Omaha, as well as the suburban areas of the western part of Sarpy County

Its population is 617,475 with 49.3% Male, and 50.7% Female. 79.9% are White, 9.9% Black, 2.8% Asian, and 10.3% Hispanic

The High school graduation rate is 91.3%, and the College graduation rate is35.7%.

Don Bacon (Incumbent) (Republican Party), Kara Eastman (Democratic Party), and Tyler Schaeffer (Libertarian Party) are running in this race

Don Bacon (R) got 51.0 or 126,715 votes, and Kara Eastman (D) got 49.0. 121,7. African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians make up 23 percent of voters. VA-02, VA-07, UT-04
